Getting Around IE 7 App Problems
|
While IE 7 is a major upgrade from IE 6, the big changes in standards support and security defaults have caused problems with applications that thought that they were optimized for IE. One of the main culprits is the strict lockdown attitude that now IE 7 takes towards ActiveX controls. One vendor that has run into problems is McAfee and their suggestions on getting their products to work with IE 7 will probably be helpful to many users who are running into similar application problems. |

I can't get Windows Live Writer to work w. 'DropMyRights' : both are Microsoft products and Windows Live Writer uses IE7 or Firefox.
I left a note at the Microsoft Live feedback url.

I have been using IE7 with good success but their is one problem that i am finding really annoying. When i go into my hotmail account i keep getting a constant informaion bar popping up all the time asking me if i want to start windows live messenger? When i close the information bar by pressing the X on the right side of the bar about every 30 seconds or so it keeps popping up asking me this same question over and over, it is getting very annoying. There needs to be settings available to be able to set options.

It was a dishonest thing for MS to push IE 7.0 as a "Windows Update". The truth is that IE 7.0 is an independent application and not an operating system component. MS has clearly acknowledged for some time that IE is not "part of the OS". There is no way MS can justify this action.
To push out a dot-zero version of *anything* using a support facility that MS wants the average Joe to blindly trust as a means of keeping their "genuine", paid-for copy of Windows current is an abuse of that trust.
Anyone in IT knows that dot-zero versions are bound to have problems and should not be treated as if they were mature products. The bug report on this page about the pop-up windows every 30 seconds on Hotmail and other reports of breaking Mcaffee are examples of this fact.
Not only did I not download this particular "Windows Update", but I also disabled it permanently. It is *my* computer, and I will decide when I wish to install a new application.

Every since I downloaded IE 7 non-beta form, I have been having problems with my web pages freezing up and not-responding. I tried to revert back to IE 6 but whatever IE 7 caused has now stuck to my computer even in this version. I had no problems till the IE 7 upgrade. I run Windows XP can anyone help?

Left navigation driven by java script tags is not working correctly on IE 7. It works on every other browser including Macintosh browser.

I too was under the impression that 7.0 was a update. "Update to 7.0" !! I would like to remove this program and go back to 6, but I don't have a clue as to go about doing that. I get an error message after installing 7.0
SMARTBRIDGE ALERTS:MotiveSB.exe - Entry Point Not Found The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located.
Anyone have ideas on that? or on how to remove 7.0 and go back to 6.0? I tried to get Microsoft with this issue, but I can't afford the money they want to help with their free product. :(

When I downloaded IE 7 I thought it was great till
my Java and RealPlayer did not work and I had to download them once again. I thought IE 7 looked great but I had to use SYSTEM RESTORE to get IE 6
back. Funny thing in IE 6 I checked what version it is an it said IE 6 but now all the help instructions in "Contents Idex" are listed IE 7. Microsoft please fix your IE 7 so I can use it with my computer with it.

I just upgraded to IE7 and had no sound. After troubleshooting a bit, I realized that the "Wave" setting in the volume controls was turned down all the way. My sound was fine before the upgrade, so I can only assume that this was a result of the upgrade.

ie.7.0 really sucks. less info. less graphically organized. now how do i get back to 6.0 without restoring the entire computer? or do i just dump it for firefox??

Please uninstall your antivirus programme then install IE7. After that you can reinstall your antivirus programme.

Why is everyone talking like Microsoft pushing IE 7 as an update is anything new? That is exactly what they did with IE 6 as well. Also, if you do get the IE 7 pushed through as an update. Go check your add remove programs list, it is there and can be uninstalled with a simple click of the mouse. Now before someone twists this around, I am not saying that I like IE 7 at all, it looks cool, but I had nothing but problems with it. The RC1 was more stable than this "final" release is.

Installed IE 7 and had a number of problems on a win2003 domain, chief being users unable to log off or shut down the machine. Don't just use system restore, but uninstall IE7 from add/remove progs first, THEN use system restore to a point before the install. That seems to do the trick. I've also changed my auto update settings.

I have a desktop PC I built myself and an IBM laptop, both have IE7 installed. The desktop isn't working well and the laptop is, and I not sure how my desktop will behave if I uninstall IE7. This is something to think about, I had no problems with the beta version on my desktop or my laptop but when I installed the .0 version I started having freeze ups, white screens along with IE7 opening and closing two or three times before I finally saw my homepage. Ive had to reformat my desktop too many times to count and I dont want to go through that again any time soon! Im going to try Registry Patrol and see if it corrects the problem. I'll get back here and post my results.

We had trouble with some sites in IE7 and discovered the solution documented in the release notes. You have to reestablish the connections which were dropped when you converted from IE6 to IE7. In internet settings go to connections to reestablish the connections. In our case we had to automatically detect the proxy settings.

MY PC has been updated with IE7 and I have
found that IE7 will stop responding and caused the PC to stop working. Under Task mananger it
looks like the PC will open up applications but they don't. The performance
for the PC is at 100% and no application are running. If you remove IE7 this
will not clear up the problem.
This happens after the PC is idle for 10 min or more. If I keep using the PC it will work fine. I have to reboot to get the PC to work after it locks up.

Angela:
I downloaded "internet explorer 7 optimized for yahoo." Thinking it was a microsoft upgrade. I have a desktop with windows XP SP2, since I downloaded "internet explorer 7 optimized for yahoo." I can not uninstall programs. I now have some programs not listed in the 'add or remove" dialogue window. I no longer have the option to "change or remove" the programs that are still listed. My programs are now corrupted and do not open. I can no longer use system restore. I get a "restore incomplete" result. I need to be able to uninstall corrupted programs. Microsoft tells me they do not own "internet explorer 7 optimized for yahoo." And can not help me. They told me Yahoo has to help me to uninstall the program. Yahoo help have not responded to my e-mail. How do I uninstall "internet explorer 7 optimized for yahoo" from windows XP SP2. There is no option to remove the program from the "add or remove" dialogue window.

Ever since I installed IE 7, whenever I access my email, it brings up a second IE page. When I am finished with my Hotmail, i have to close the second page.
Any ideas why this happens???
PS IE7 is crap and should not be automaically shoved down our throats.

My computer just performed the update to IE7 on Sunday automatically. Now I am unable to use any of the hotlinks I had previously established on the links toolbar. Also the address toolbar doesn't work and I can not click on other links on the web, especially those which pop-up a 2nd screen such as a request to open a PDF. I tried the MS self-help and it suggested I download the network diagnostic tool, but IE7.0 won't allow the download screen to open the program. Also no history is displayed. Everything I need to access has to be manually typed in on google and reaccessed that way with me retyping all account names & passwords. Nothing gets saved so I have to keep re-searching and re-typing all acct names and passwords. I can't create new hotlinks under my favorites. What the hell has happened? Somebody help me!!!tcsi98@yahoo.com

Robert--My CPU usage was up to 100% with only Outlook open. I had to call the manufacturer and they disable all my start-up items and it's running great. Only problem now is with the 7.0 "upgrade" I can't get to my verizon email account on line yet I can get to the home page...anyone have this happen?

My automatic updates downloaded IE 7.0 and I've had nothing but problems ever since. Now, when I try to burn CDs in Napster, Napster doesn't recognize my burner CD/DVD drive. Also, when I go to "my computer" and check out the properties, then hardware, I have a "non-recognition" message for the CD/DVD drive. This is very frustrating. Is removing IE 7.0 a problem?
Thanks

Awhile back I "upgraded" to I.E. 7.0 and had continuuous connection problems and response time problems. I used restore several times, which seemed to fix the connection problem. Restore quit doing the fix and I uninstalled I.E. 7 and reverted back to I.E. 6. All works great and I'll never go back to 7.0!

I am having real problems - not sure if it is IE7. Running PC with Vista and IE7 and Office 2007. Using Hotmail account with no problems, however recently everyone I send emails to cannot read them. Any clues as to the problem? I have tried sending them to various users - some can read and some cant!

Hello How are you?
I have seen your post and would really like someone to help me.
I have downloaded 88% of a 3.66GB file of Yellow Dog Lynux for my PS3, now for some reason the server/link timed out...stoped responding and after waiting for 5 minutes and the download not going anywhere i clicked close/cancel download. I want to try to locate this download of 3 GIGs somewhere on my hard drive in the c:\documents & settings folder under my user name ( which i was able to unhide/discover after reading another post) but i am using windows vista and its extremly hard due to security/user restrictions to the file/folder structure. After re-attempting to re-start the download at a later time; the download just started back at 0MB !!! All i really want to know is there any chance even a Microsoft Engineer could RECOVER MY 88% download - 3 GB of that 3.66GB of the Yellow Dog Lynux for my PS3 and somehow chuck it back onto the download que. THANK YOU.
